Program
Mentoring camp with younger males in conjunction with the Maitland Youth Enterprise Centre.
Why?
Identified that young males transitioning from high school (ages 10, 11, 12) could benefit and that earlier intervention is necessary. There are a lot of single parent families and so they miss out on male role model / adult figure
- Need expressed for youth programs rather than services
- Need for ‘mindset’ change: young people need to accept responsibility
- Lack of self-esteem
- Need more early intervention activities / focus
- Need to integrate services and programs better and access to preventative programs to avoid crisis situations

- Prevention programs to reduce use of violence with those at-risk
- School education camps to promote learning of ways of expressing emotions, stress and anger (suggested to be in excess of 2-3 days for difficult kids to work through bravado and start to explore alternatives to violence and expressing positive emotions
- Provide drug and alcohol programs for young people
